When painting somebody's portrait, it's psychological. Through meeting the person concerned in his own environment I obtain a general and deeper impression. This is essential as to be able to show the nature of that specific person in my painting.

On the other hand I also make sketches and photographs, but I do not just copy a photograph. I use it as a resource.

Making the invisible visible! It sounds like a contradiction, but that is exactly what I aim for. The fox from the book ‘Le petit Prince’ (author A. de Saint-Exupéry) expresses it as follows:

‘Only with the hart can we truly see. For the eyes, the essence is invisible.’
